Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Additions & Renovations
This addition project for Blessed Sacrament Church produced over 15,000 square feet of new and much-needed space for a rapidly growing membership. Special features include a beautiful sanctuary, rising over 50 feet above street level, over a full basement of reinforced concrete walls. The interior clear span of this structure is supported by naturally finished and exposed laminated wood beams. The exterior is veneered with brick to match the original church. A special effort was made to design and construct the new addition as an integral part of the older church, to keep it from looking “added on.” Since the entry to the new facility was through the old sanctuary, sagging floors needed to be leveled, and existing interior finishes were restored to match the new interiors.
The Nielsen Partnership:
Nielsen’s role in this project began early with preplanning, value engineering, and finally construction. A tight budget and limited site area required precision scheduling of material delivery and coordination of manpower. Cooperation and patience by the owner, who occupied the existing building during construction, and Nielsen’s sensitivity to the special needs of the owner’s staff and congregation, resulted in an efficient project delivery and construction process.
Nielsen’s efforts to help Blessed Sacrament Church realize its dreams was highly appreciated by the staff and congregation and the church takes great pride in the final completed project—as evidenced by the “standing room only” dedication service.
