Rockingham Memorial Hospital Wellness Pavilion
This 49,300 square-foot Wellness Pavilion houses the activities of Rockingham Memorial Hospital’s former Valley Wellness Center and includes facilities for aquatics, aerobics, strength and endurance, as well as administrative offi ces and up-to-date meeting rooms. It will also house the hospital’s rehabilitative services department. The Wellness Pavilion’s interior features include an exposed arched structure over the main arena and aquatics areas, exposed roof structure over the rehab gym, a four-lane, synthetic-surface running/jogging/walking track with banked curves, a wood gym floor for basketball, and a volleyball court. The design has focused on creating a community environment conducive to healing and improving one’s health.
The Nielsen Partnership
This project benefited from the partnering process. During the early design stages, a formal partnering approach was used to establish a working relationship that allowed the design and construction process to proceed with an understanding that any confl icts would be resolved to the benefit of the overall team. Nielsen Management Group team used the “fasttrack” method of contract delivery for the RMH Wellness Pavilion to ensure early occupancy of four months. The owner’s project coordinator, Ron Colaw, Director of RMH Rehabilitative Services, and Wellness Center Director Joe Bonin worked closely with the design and project delivery teams to expedite the project.
