James Madison University Athletic Performance Center
The Athletic Performance Center (APC) is a new fully sprinkled two-story building with brick veneer and architectural precast concrete panels. Special aspects of this project include the flood culvert, weight room, sports medicine facility with two hydrotherapy pools and equipment room for the football team. The building is 48,308 square feet. Duration of the project was 21 months.
The APC contains an academic center, strength and conditioning facilities, a sports medicine complex, team meeting rooms, a new football locker, an Athletic Hall of Fame, hospitality areas and coaches’ offices. The locker room has 4,266 square feet and houses 112 lockers. It has easy access to the field for players on game days.
The APC houses a number of sports exhibits, pictures of star athletes, and championship rings from key football games. The APC is an ideal place for all kinds of receptions.
The Nielsen Partnership
Completion of the Athletic Performance Center continued the strong relationship that Nielsen and JMU have enjoyed over the years. Head Coach Mickey Matthews calls the Athletic Performance Center a “WOW” building. He says, “Whenever I take visitors through this building, they keep saying ‘wow!’ as they walk through each room. It is very impressive.”
