Shenandoah County District Courts
The new two-story, 30,246 SF Shenandoah County District Courts Building houses the county’s General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court as well as the offices of the Commonwealth’s Attorney and the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Services Unit. The building is located east of the Shenandoah County Administration building. The project is pursuing LEED Silver Certification from the US Green Building Council.
The building’s brick exterior, massive concrete columns and entablature will architecturally compliment the neighboring County Administration and Human Services Buildings creating an almost campus-like appearance.
The stainless steel, wood and tempered glass railing gracing the main staircase provides an open, airy atmosphere to the main lobbies on both floors. Coupled with the two stories of insulated glass curtainwall gracing the front elevation of the building, the building is awash in natural light.
A gated, secure parking area has also been incorporated into the site plan. A large storm water management pond is located across North Water Street to service the project. The building will be conditioned (hearting and air conditioning) by a geo-thermal heat pump system comprised of 42 wells located beneath the east parking lot.
The building’s interior finishing touches span the utilitarian amenities found the detention areas to the custom millwork found in its two courtroom. Oak courtroom pew spectator seating is provided in both courtrooms.
