J. Frank Hillyard Middle School
The renovation includes a new wing of classrooms, air conditioning and expanded cafeteria. The renovations, funded largely through a state construction fund and the Virginia Lottery, began in January 2006.While crews are still wrapping up a few “odds and ends” most of the construction is finished, The remaining portions — mainly the band and chorus rooms — are set for completion by year’s end. J. Frank Hillyard now features air conditioning throughout, new windows, exterior doors, lighting, ceilings, floors and paint. Sevennew classrooms were also added. The school had previously used mobile classrooms at the school on Hawks Hill Drive off of Va. 259. Much of the renovation was done while school was still in session. Beyond the visible improvements, crews also removed and updated the building’s electrical wiring.
