Kate Collins Middle School

Special Features

This construction management project consisted of both renovation and addition. Originally, Kate Collins was a 100,000-square-foot school, which was built in the 1960s, with typical brick and lots of windows. The structure was enlarged by a third, to 150,000 square feet. Additions included a 400 stadium seat auditorium, a chorus room, and a band room.

A new connector hall with an elevator was added to connect the two buildings. Prior to the renovation, the students had to go outside to go from one building to another. Every part of the building has been touched in this renovation. Kate Collins now has a full heating and air conditioning system. It is the only building in Waynesboro with a geothermal heating and air conditioning system. The city of Waynesboro considers Kate Collins Middle School a flagship building for the community.

The Nielsen Partnership

Waynesboro City Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Robin Crowder says, “When we get calls about Nielsen, we tell folks they would be foolish to go anywhere else. Nielsen is the most honorable, honest organization I’ve ever worked with.”
